This is a quick and simple warm-up activity for students to practice spelling country names in English.
Students are shown 11 country flags and must write down the names of as many as they can in 3 minutes. The PowerPoint slide has a built in timer that will play music and show a progress bar for 3 minutes. A bell will ring when time is up.
The next slides show the flags and the spellings for each. Letters will appear one by one as you click, so you can spell the country names out together as a class.
The last slide has a summary of all the flags and country names.
This activity takes about 8 minutes.
Most of my 5th grade EFL students in Korea were able to write about 4 out of 11 from memory (the U.S., the U.K., Korea, and Canada), but a few of them got several more. I gave out prizes to anyone who could get 5 or more correct.
